Creating a Course in AlpacaLMS


Creating New Course

Instructors are not the only one who can create online course in AlpacaLMS, admin also have access to the same course creation features and even more.

To create a course in your LMS:

  1. Navigate to your Admin Panel.
  2. On the sidebar, click on Courses tab dropdown.
  3. Click on New. A course creation page will open.

Here are the field

Basic Information

Course Type: Select the type of course from the dropdown. Options may include Video Course, Text Course, etc.

Title (required): Enter the title of the course.

Points: Enter the points for the course. If left blank, the mode will be inactive.

Select an Instructor: Choose an instructor for the course from the dropdown menu.

SEO Meta Description: Enter a description for SEO purposes. This will be displayed in search engine results. Aim for 155-160 characters.

Thumbnail (required): Upload a thumbnail image for the course by double-clicking the upload icon. A file browser will open in which you can upload your thumbnail image.

Cover Image (required): Upload a cover image for the course by double-clicking the upload icon. A file browser will open in which you can upload your cover image.

Demo Video: Select the source for your demo video if desired. If you want to upload your own demo video, double-clicking the upload icon, a file browser will open in which you can upload your video.

Description (required): Provide a description for the course. HTML and images are supported.

Additional Information

Capacity: Set the maximum number of participants for the course.

Start Date: Select the start date for the course.

Duration (required): Enter the duration of the course in minutes.

Time Zone: Select the time zone for the course.

Support: Toggle this option to enable or disable support for the course.

Completion Certificate: Toggle this option to enable or disable the issuance of a completion certificate.

Downloadable: Toggle this option to enable or disable downloadable content.

Partner Instructor: Toggle this option to enable or disable partner instructors.

Course Forum: Toggle this option to enable or disable the course forum.

Subscribe: Toggle this option to enable or disable subscription.

Private: Toggle this option to make the course private.

Enable Waitlist: Toggle this option to enable or disable the waitlist.

Access Period (Days): Set the access period for the course. The user must repurchase after this period expires.

Price ($): Enter the price of the course. Leave blank to offer it for free.

Tags: Enter tags for the course, separated by commas.

Category (required): Select a category for the course from the dropdown menu.

Message to Reviewer: Enter any messages or notes for the course reviewer; if you are an admin, this is usually not required.

After entering all the necessary information, click on Save and Continue to create the course. In the next steps will be adding content to the course.

Adding Contents to Course

Once you have created a course and filled in the basic information, more options will show up at the bottom of the course creation page.

Sections

Sections are the main contents of your course. Here, you can add videos, files, quizzes, and assignments.

  1. Creating Section:

    • Click on the New Section button in the Sections area.
    • Enter the Section Title of the section.
    • Toggle section Active switch.
    • Click Save to create the section.
  2. Adding Contents to Section:

    AlpacaLMS supports multiple video sources. You can add a video from YouTube, Vimeo, external link, or upload your own video. We will go through each of these options.
    To add video lesson to a section:

    • Click the Plus icon.
    • Select New File.
    • In the Add new file window, fill in Title, Description.
    • Select the Source of the video. This can be YouTube, Vimeo, external link, or upload your own video. If using other type of video sources, enter the appropriate links.
    • Choose whether the file Downloadable or not.
    • Set the status to Active or Inactive.
    • Click Save.

    To add text lesson to a section:

    • Click the Plus icon.
    • Select New Text Lesson.
    • In the Add new text lesson window, fill in Title, Study Time, Summary, and the text Content.
    • Upload any Attachments and Image as needed.
    • Click Save.

    To add a quiz to a section:

    • Click the Plus icon.
    • Select New Quiz.
    • In the New Quiz window, fill in the Quiz title.
    • Set the Time (Minutes) for the quiz. Leave it blank for unlimited time.
    • Set the Number of attempts allowed. Leave it blank for unlimited attempts.
    • Enter the Pass mark for the quiz.
    • Set the Expiry days for the quiz. This is the number of days after purchase that the quiz will expire.
    • Toggle Display questions randomly if you want the questions to appear in a random order.
    • Toggle Certificate included if you want to include a certificate upon completion.
    • Toggle Active quiz to activate or deactivate the quiz.
    • Click Create.

    Once a Quiz is created, you can start adding questions to it. AlpacaLMS supports multiple choices and text-based questions. The question creation wizzards will take you through the process of creating a question.

  3. Reorganizing Contents:

    Once you have created your sections and contents, you can reorder them by dragging and dropping. This allows you to reorganize the course flow in a way that makes sense.

Course Prerequisites

Course prerequisites are courses that students must have completed (or are recommended to complete) before enrolling in your course. You can specify multiple prerequisites for a course as follows:

  • Click on the New Prerequisite button.
  • Search for course.
  • Choose whether the course is Required or optional.
  • Click Save to add the prerequisite.

Related Courses

Related courses are courses that are relevance to your course. You can add multiple related courses to a course.

  1. Add Related Course:
    • Click on the Add Related Courses button.
    • Search and select the desired related course.
    • Click Save to add the related course.

FAQs

FAQs are frequently asked questions that give the students more information about the course.

  • Click on the New FAQ button.
  • Fill in the Title (question) and Answer.
  • Click Save to create the FAQ.

Learning Materials

Learning materials provide a list of key concepts that students will learn throughout the course. This section offers a summary of the topics and materials that will be covered, giving students a clear understanding of what they can expect to learn. This will appear in the "What you will learn?" box of your course description page.

  • Click on the New learning material button.
  • Fill in the Title.
  • Click Save.

Company Logo

You have the option to upload company logos to your course. These logos will be displayed in the "Suggested by top companies" section on your course description page, enhancing the credibility and appeal of your course.

  • Click on the New company logo button.
  • Double click on the upload button and a File Manager window will open.
  • Upload and select the company logo image you want to display.
  • Click Save to upload the logo.

Requirements

You can also add a list of requirements for your course. This will appear in the "Requirements" box of your course description page.

  • Click on the New Requirement button.
  • Enter the Title.
  • Click Save to add the requirement.

Message to Reviewer

  1. Message to Reviewer:

    • Enter any comments or messages for the reviewer in the Message to Reviewer field.
  2. Save and Continue:

    • Once all the information is filled out, click on Save and Continue to proceed.

By following these steps, you can effectively populate your course with relevant sections, prerequisites, related courses, FAQs, learning materials, company logo, requirements, and quizzes. This will ensure that your course is comprehensive and well-organized for your students.
